THE WORD BECAME FLESH!

THE WORD BECAME FLESH! John 1:1-14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.    He was in the beginning with God.    All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.    In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.    And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.   There was a man sent from God, whose name  was  John.  This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, n

We must turn to the Lord

Repentance We must turn to the Lord and away from our sin, for we are totally dependent on Jesus Christ for our salvation. And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his  eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Jesus was making a point

Image
Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. John 21:4-6 (NIV) Jesus was making a point: even though they were seasoned fishermen, from now on their effectiveness was going to come from Jesus directions, not their skills. One throw of the net in obedience to Jesus was more fruitful than a night of fishing. For many of us, our answer to obstacles is to work harder, but Jesus is waiting on the shore. Just take some time and listen, for sometimes it is not our weakness that makes it hard to hear God, but our strength.

the last days

Image
‎2 Timothy 3 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. 10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, lon

The Spirit of the Lord is in me...

Image
The Spirit of the Lord is in me... Luke 4:18 In His first sermon, we learn what Jesus' ministry was all about... and how He wants us to follow in His footsteps. Jesus said, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor... proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind... release the oppressed... proclaim the favorable year of the Lord's favor" (Luke 4:18-19). Here at the beginning of proclaiming the Good News and praying for healing, Jesus recognized the anointing of God was on His life. What was the source of that anointing? "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me." You and I need to recognize when the Spirit is upon us-anointing us-to do His bidding. God's Spirit is in you, waiting to be released. "I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-the Spirit of truth... he lives with you and will be in you" ( John 14:16-17). He lef

He has written your name on His hand and keeps a list of your tears.” Isaiah 49: 16; Psalm 56:8 God knows you. And He is near you! How far is the shepherd from the sheep (John 10:14)? The branch from the vine (John 15:5)? That’s how far God is from you. He is near. See how these four words look taped to your bathroom mirror. “GOD is on My SIDE” (Psalm 56:9) And His kingdom needs you. The poor need you; the lonely need you; the church needs you…. the cause of God needs you. You are part of the purposes He is working out in the world (Ephesians 1:11). The kingdom needs you to discover and deploy your unique skill. Use it to make much out of God. Get the Word out. God is with us, we are not alone.

This is what the Lord Almighty says

Image
This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Zechariah 7:9 Karrion was five days old, and she was dying. She was born in the south of Sudan as her mother tried to return home from the violence in the north. Though starving, Karrion refused her mother's breast and curled against her to die. One look at Karrion's tiny face and a decision was made-we could not lose this one. We made it in time, thank the Lord! This time the story had a happy ending, but for thousands of others in violent, anti-Christian Sudan, the ending is not as joyous. Countless will starve to death unless the Church takes to heart its God-ordained role to be a source of help to a dying world.

ROMAN 10 8-18''''  8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” [ e ] (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” [ f ] 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” [ g ] Israel Rejects the Gospel 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.” The Bible is filled with admonitions about the importance of listening: Listen to my words…I told you, but you would not listen…Be silent, Israel, and listen… Listening is best done in quiet. Again from the Bible: Teach me, and I will be quiet…In quietness and trust is your strength…It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord… Come with me (Jesus) by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. Rebecca St. James writes these words in a meaningful praise hymn: I’ll stand in awe of you, Jesus… You are God in Heaven And here I am on earth So I’ll let my words be few Because I’m so in love with you

Lord Jesus, I need You

Image
Lord Jesus, I need You. I know You are the Son of God, the Savior of all men. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Enable me to live a supernatural life beginning today. Amen.” If you asked Christ to come into your life, by faith, trusting that He has answered your prayer even as He has promised, then you can know with absolute certainty that He has done so. Reading: John 14:23-27

“The Lord is my light and my salvation

Image
“The Lord is my light and my salvation. I will fear no one.” (Psalm 27:1 GNT) I love the way my wife Kay watches horror movies. If something like Alien comes on television, she turns on every light in the room and sometimes pulls up the comforter to cover her eyes. Would she watch a horror movie in the total dark? Absolutely not. Many of you won’t, either, because light helps you see things more clearly. David says in Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation. I will fear no one” (GNT). God is described in two ways: as light and as salvation. Yet many Christians live their lives in fear of rejection, completely ignoring the fact that if God is our salvation, then we have nothing to fear — not even losing the approval of those around us. Living for the approval of others is a miserable way to live. It will cripple your life. But God is your light and salvation!

You shall not covet your neighbor's house.

Image
You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17 Everything about our culture entices us to want more and to want better things than we already have. We live in the most affluent yet the most unhappy nation in the world. This is the result of removing gratitude from our value system and writing a "more, more, more" attitude in. If we don't want more and strive for more, we're told we somehow don't measure up. The cure for envy and covetousness is found in gratitude and praise to God. Colossians 3:16 tells us that we should "let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Today I want to bring a word to you to find a new measuring stick for yourself and others-let us

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

Image
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. Exodus 20:8-10 In Mark 2:27 Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." We live in a generation that works almost constantly, but God in His compassion knew that we needed to rest. He also knew that it would be increasingly difficult for us to slow down and spend time with Him with the many distractions of the world pressing in on us. The Sabbath commandment is a wonderful example of the timeless truths that God handed down to establish walls of protection around our lives and to help us understand how best to interact with others and with Him. God took centuries to boil the commandments down to"love" because we first had to be taught what love meant. The first commandments are about loving God-the commandments that follow are about loving one another and ourselves. I challenge you to put your wor

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest.   – Psalm 22:1-2 niv It was fitting for Jesus to cry this Psalm out from the cross, for at the moment of his death, he experienced distance from His heavenly Father. Why? Because Jesus was taking on our sin. Our rebellion to a holy God demanded justice, so God Himself came to the earth to take our punishment. But when Jesus rose from the dead, He opened the path to God the Father. Because of the work of Christ at the cross, we no longer are separated from God. He was forsaken so we could be accepted. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness

Image
“ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ” ( Matthew 6:33 NLT) Many people say they don’t have time for a quiet time. That’s an excuse . Every person on the planet has the same 168 hours in his or her week. The question is: How do you spend the time you have? You don’t have time for everything. No one does. You have to make time for what really counts. It’s not a matter of time; it’s a matter of priorities and values. The key to making time for a daily devotion is to make Jesus and his Kingdom the priority in your life. Jesus said, “ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well ” ( Matthew 6:33 , NLT). Put God first in your life, and you’ll have more time. Whatever you need more of in your life, give God first place in that area. Your quiet time and getting to know God should be the number one priority of your life . Why? You weren’t put on the planet to mark th

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. – Proverbs 4:23 (NI Research shows that 80% of heart disease is preventable with better lifestyle choices: what we eat and how we treat our bodies is either life-giving or life-stealing. How much more does our spiritual diet affect our spiritual hearts? What we fill our minds with overflows out of our hearts. Therefore we are commanded to guard our hearts, carefully monitoring what we allow in so that what flows out is pleasing to God.

He pursued her – flowers, dinners and sweet words. He SAID he was a Christian. But within a few weeks, he wanted the relationship to be intimate. He said this was a gift from God to make people happy. But Sandi stood firm. She cared for the man and wanted a companion, but his view of God did not agree with the Bible. The Bible says, we’re to run from immorality and that’s just what Sandi did. It was time to end the relationship. Her heart was broken but she knew the Lord loved her obedience. She felt better too. “Amen

Image
The last word found in the Bible is the word, “ Amen .” It is also used in the previous verse. ( Revelation 22:20,21 ) In verse 21 it is a summation of the desire for agreement to a statement that nothing be added to or taken from the book. The final ‘ Amen ‘ is affirmation of the desire for the grace of the Lord to be with those who read it. The first occurrence of ‘ Amen ‘ in scripture is part of a test for when a husband has accused his wife of adultery but has no proof of the matter and she protests her innocence. The woman would be taken to the Tabernacle and go before the priest and he would put her under oath. She was then submitted to a ceremony in which she drank some water containing dust from the tabernacle floor. If she had committed adultery, she was cursed with a wasting disease, but if she did not get sick, then she was proven innocent and her husband was proven wrong. ( Numbers 5:12-31 ) During the ceremony, when the priest pronounced the curse, the woman was requir

The God Who Feeds My Soul

Image
The God Who Feeds My Soul   by Max Lucado Bread is eaten daily. Some fruits are available only in season. Some drinks are made only at holidays. Not so with bread. And not so with Jesus. He should be brought to our table every day. We let him nourish our hearts, not just in certain months or on special events, but daily. Bread can meet many needs. So can Jesus. He has a word for the lonely as well as for the popular. He has help for the physically ill and the emotionally ill. If your vision is clear, he can help you. If your vision is cloudy, he can help you. Jesus can meet each need. Can you see why Jesus called himself the Bread of Life ? I can think of one other similarity. Consider how bread is made. Think about the process. Wheat grows in the field, then it is cut down, winnowed, and ground into flour. It passes through the fire of the oven and is then distributed around the world. Only by this process does bread become bread. Each step is essential. Jesus grew up
