We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago. – Psalm 44:1 (NIV) When you read the rest of this psalm you find that the Israelites are being overrun by their enemies. The Psalmist is basically saying, “You delivered our forefathers when they were in danger, we are asking you to do this for us today.” This is the power of understanding how God has interacted with His people: He has revealed Himself as the same yesterday, today, and forever! This means that for those who are willing to dig into the Scriptures, they can call upon the Lord of the universe to be consistent with His actions of the past. We have that same privilege today. take the helmet of faith

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. – Ephesians 6:17 (NIV The apostle Paul tells us that we are in a spiritual battle and need all that God has provided for us. Now Paul introduces us to the helmet of salvation as he uses the analogy of 1st Century armor to make his point. In the time of battle we don’t need to be fixated upon our thoughts, but the Scripture. As we renew our thoughts according to God’s word we are ready to fight the battle that is in front of us. Salvation is from the Lord, and God is well able to protect our heart as we keep our thoughts focused upon Him.
