We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago. – Psalm 44:1 (NIV) When you read the rest of this psalm you find that the Israelites are being overrun by their enemies. The Psalmist is basically saying, “You delivered our forefathers when they were in danger, we are asking you to do this for us today.” This is the power of understanding how God has interacted with His people: He has revealed Himself as the same yesterday, today, and forever! This means that for those who are willing to dig into the Scriptures, they can call upon the Lord of the universe to be consistent with His actions of the past. We have that same privilege today.
